Project Moses Update

Project Moses Update

These months have been busy for the young men at the Project Moses. As they prepare for their next soccer season, Tyler has created great opportunities for them to get experience on the field. Each week, the young men get the privilege of a soccer night with our visiting teams. This not only gives them practice, but it allows them to connect with the North Americans who are in Honduras serving. Recently, the young men faced off with the Mission Staff members. It was amazing to see how the boys had improved and held their own against much more experienced players.

The boys also had the opportunity to work with our visiting teams, providing an opportunity to serve as well as use their English skills. It is also great to see how they are advancing in their English language, a skill that will bring opportunities in the future. One of the things we love about these interactions is that it helps the boys experience and know that God’s family is big and goes beyond the small community of believers they are part of. And of course, for our visitors, they get the blessing of knowing the boys and having faces to place with names as they pray for them.

Among the many opportunities for growth and development, the boys have been taught how to play chess. Several made it to the finals of a local chess tournament. One of the young men, Maynor, placed second in the tournament. It makes us so proud to see them expanding their life experiences.

This past month, Tyler and Elsie traveled to the U.S. While there, Tyler’s church donated nice Bibles for each of the boys. These are what could be considered “lifetime Bibles” due to the high quality. Tyler is helping the boys learn to use their Bibles as tools in their daily life. The Bibles were engraved with their names, and the boys were each given quality highlighters to use as they study. Teaching them to study the Word and apply it to their lives is one of the priorities of the program. We appreciate so much the generous donation.

Many of this year’s groups brought other useful donations to the boys. One donor gave the boys practice jerseys and shorts, quality soccer socks for their official uniforms, and shin guards. Other teams were responsive to our request for bed sheets and mattress protectors. These gestures, like others, show the boys that they are a part of a larger family.

We are still looking for sponsors for the boys. The monthly cost is $600 per boy, which includes all costs related to providing housing, food, transportation, shoes, clothing, education, educational supplies, medical and dental needs, medication, travel, and the staff necessary for the Project to function. Your help with these things is so appreciated.
