Moses Project Home Visits and Field Trip

Moses Project Home Visits and Field Trip

Due to an unexpected nationwide vacation from school, the Moses Project boys traveled back to their homes for a break, and our leadership team was able to go out and visit them each individually. The majority of the boys live near two larger community centers on either side of the tallest mountain in Honduras, Celaque, but there was still quite a bit of walking involved in order to arrive at some of these rural villages. At each home, our team was welcomed so well by the boys and their families, often being served food or sent off with a bag of fruit harvested that morning. One family even brought out their instruments and played local folk music for them. The families extended so much appreciation for the Moses Project and the impact it is having on their children, and our team asked for the parents’ continued collaboration. We pray that building these relationships with not just the boys but also their families will add to their future success.

Another opportunity we’ve been able to provide for these young men was a field trip to the local archaeological park of ancient Mayan ruins. The Copán Ruins are a major historical site, but not one of the boys had ever visited in spite of it being located in our own region of Honduras. Many of them expressed that it was a dream of theirs to one day visit this impressive piece of their nation’s history. Not only were they able to tour the ruins, they were also able to witness the annual Macaw liberation, birds which were sacred to the Mayans and are native to the area. The local bird park rescues, rehabilitates and releases macaws back into the wild, and it’s a beautiful thing to see. The trip was very educational about Honduran history and culture and extremely memorable for our Moses Project boys.
